Dr. Ashwini Dhananjay Ookalkar is a distinguished Pathologist known for her expertise in healthcare quality management and administration. With an MBBS from Seth G.S. Medical College & KEM Hospital in Mumbai, a DPB in 2000, and a DNB in Pathology in 2002, hse has a solid educational foundation. Her commitment to excellence is evident through certifications like Lead Auditor for ISO 9001:2012 and Internal Auditor for ISO 15189:2012, Laboratory Accreditation. She is one of the few Qualified Auditors for Dialysis Centres in the country. She is also a Qualified Assessor for IVF/ART centres, Stroke centres.

In research, Dr. Ookalkar's contributions are significant. Her studies on coagulation profiles in deep vein thrombosis among nephrotic syndrome patients and infection control in hemodialysis using FMEA have gained widespread recognition. She's a Life Member of the Indian Medical Association and has served as Past Secretary of the Vidarbha Association of Pathologists & Microbiologists.

Dr. Ookalkar's entrepreneurial drive is evident in her initiatives. She completed a course on Design Thinking, from IIT Delhi and founded the "Dialysis Techniques for Beginners" Learning Management System, winning the Student Choice Award. As National Faculty for the Indian Society of Nephrology-West Zone, she shares insights on quality audits in dialysis units, solidifying her leadership in healthcare quality management.

A Visionary Nephrologist

Late Dr. Vidya N Acharya, the first female nephrologist in India, established and developed the Nephrology Unit at the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, Mumbai. There, she pioneered the very first dialysis and kidney transplant programs in Western India. Dr. Acharya also founded the first Conference of Renal Healthcare Professionals (COREP) in 2002.
